Mercedes Set To Confirm George Russell Extension As Verstappen Future Hangs In The Balance
Reports from Italian media suggest Mercedes are poised to announce a contract extension for George Russell ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. Italian publication Corriere della Sera claims that an option to extend Russell's deal by a further year has been accepted by both parties, with a formal announcement reportedly imminent. Russell signed a one-year contract renewal with the Brackley-based outfit last year, mirroring the arrangement given to his team-mate Kimi Antonelli. The 2026 season has been a difficult one for Russell, having won just one grand prix compared to Antonelli's impressive five victories.
