The first qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix was marred by heavy rain, which ultimately led to the postponement of the second and third qualifying sessions. This does not affect Sauber driver Esteban Guiterrez however, as he failed to qualify for the next session due to an untimely crash. He will start 18th on the grid after posting a fastest time of 1:47.776.
