Hamilton gets grid penalty for gearbox change

April 20th, 2013 (F1Plus / Chris Cameron-Dow) - Lewis Hamilton has joined the ranks of those with grid penalties this weekend in Bahrain, after his Mercedes team changed his gearbox after the end of Free Practice 3. The change was needed after a left-rear tyre failure caused damage to the rear-end of the car at the end of this morning's practice session. Under the regulations, each driver must use the same gearbox for five consecutive events. Any unscheduled gearbox changes result in a five-place grid penalty for the driver.  As this is the fourth Grand Prix of the season, and Hamilton has had a gearbox change, he has been handed a five-place grid penalty by the stewards.
