Red Bull breaks barriers, send woman on the podium
For the first time in Formula 1, a woman graced the podium not as a grid girl or a VIP scheduled to hand out the trophies but as a member of the winning team. Red Bull sent Gill Jones, who is in charge of the electronics in the team, to collect the constructors’ trophy on behalf of the defending champions at the Bahrain Grand Prix, which was won by Sebastian Vettel. “To have a woman on the podium (is good),” said the German. “It’s doesn’t happen every day.” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner referred to her as an “important member” of the team, one of the many who work behind the scenes largely unnoticed by the F1 fraternity and...
