Lewis Hamilton was at a loss to explain his lack of pace in the second practice session for the German Grand Prix. Hamilton was comfortably fastest during the morning session at the Nurburgring, but was 0.888s off Sebastian Vettel's best time in the afternoon. He was eighth fastest and when asked if the pace had dropped off in the second session he said: "Mine has, definitely. I was back in eighth or something." Pushed to see if he knew why, Hamilton added: "No." He said the new rear tyres this weekend, which feature a Kevlar belt rather than steel, had not been a defining factor.
