Fernley wants race drivers to test for safety

Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley says he wants his race drivers to run at the Silverstone Young Driver Test for safety reasons. Following the tyre blowouts that marred the British Grand Prix two weeks' ago, the FIA opened up the possibility for race drivers to be used at the Young Driver Test. Such drivers are only allowed to run if they are testing tyres for Pirelli, but in confirming that Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil will drive Fernley said he believes young drivers should not be put in a position where safety could be compromised.
