New tyres had minimal impact - McLaren

McLaren's sporting director Sam Michael has played down the impact of Pirelli's new tyres on his team's performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Following several failures with its original-specification 2013 tyres, Pirelli reverted to its construction from last season in Hungary. The compounds remain the same but the belt material has changed from steel to Kevlar, which teams said resulted in more consistent performance over longer runs. Hungary witnessed improved performances from the likes of Mercedes, Williams and McLaren, but Michael does not believe that is down to the tyres.
