Raikkonen left Lotus as he wasn't paid his salary

Kimi Raikkonen revealed that money trouble at Lotus was part of the reason why he opted to return to Ferrari. The Finn was announced as a teammate to Fernando Alonso at the Italian team next season, with the 2007 world champion deciding to switch teams due to financial constraints at the Enstone-based outfit. 'The reasons I left the team are on the money side,' Raikkonen said. 'I have not got my salary, it's an unfortunate thing.' Autosport reported that Raikkonen received his basic salary but the problems that emerged were over 'performance-based bonus payments.' The decision indicates that Lotus could struggle to provide its drivers a car to emerge as a championship contender next year.
