Qualifying Report - As Expected. Less Expected

As expected, Sebastian Vettel won the pole for the Indian Grand Prix. Less expected, Mercedes teammates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton grabbed the second and third grid places as tire strategy played an important role in all three qualifying sessions. The ambient air temperature at the start of qualifying was 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), and the track temperature was 102 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius.) Qualifying 1 Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez got things underway in the 20-minute Q1 session. He also set the first lap time at 1:27.529.
