Sergio Perez close to McLaren contract extension

Sergio Perez is reportedly set to remain at McLaren for the 2014 Formula One season, with an official announcement to be made in due course. Perez's future with the Woking-based team had been the subject of doubt due to his largely substandard performances in his debut season with McLaren, with team principal Martin Whitmarsh flirting with the prospect of bringing double world champion Fernando Alonso back to the team during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. However, the Mexican's recent upturn in form, which has seen Perez score points in four of the last five races – including a season-best fifth-place at the Indian Grand Prix – is likely to see the 23-year-old be retained...
