After a five year absence from the Formula 1 calendar, the United States Grand Prix made its return to the sport in 2012 at its new home in Austin, Texas. At the new state-of-the-art Circuit of the Americas, the penultimate round of the season took place with the battle for the drivers’ world title still raging on. Sebastian Vettel travelled to the USA with a 10 point advantage over rival Fernando Alonso. Vettel’s race weekend started in style by dominating all three practice sessions. The inevitable occurred in qualifying, but the margins were closer than expected. The usual suspects dropped out in the first qualifying session with Daniel Ricciardo joining them in the drop-zone....
