Helicopter problem caused stoppage

The FIA says a technical problem with the medical helicopter stationed at the Circuit of The Americas caused the lengthy red flag period during Friday's first practice session. With heavy fog already causing a 40-minute delay, as the helicopter would not have been able to fly, the session was stopped soon after it began when further aircraft problems, the exact details of which have not been communicated, were discovered. As the original helicopter was grounded, officials had to fly in a replacement from Austin, leaving the field with only half an hour of track time when the action resumed.
