Mercedes caught out in season's worst qualifying at COTA

With the fact that Mercedes AMG Petronas have been in the hunt to take the fight to Infiniti Red Bull Racing once again, it was a case of major contrasting fortunes for the Brackley squad, who have suffered their worst qualifying session of the year. Both drivers were also amongst those that were finding the going tricky. In a season where it has been neck and neck between the two teams for pole position, with Red Bull now having ten to Mercedes' eight, Lewis Hamilton was hoping to be fighting for a place on the front two rows of the grid, but eventually had to settle with fifth place.
