Kovalainen: 'Lotus opportunity showed it was worthwhile to stay in F1″

Heikki Kovalainen believes his performance at the United States Grand Prix proved that he was right to not turn his back on Formula 1. He is completing the 2013 season as Kimi Raikkonen's stand-in at Lotus and looked on course for a points finish on his debut for the team at the United States Grand Prix. However, several issues, including an unscheduled second pit stop, dropped him to 16th place. The 32-year-old drove for Caterham in 2012 before being dropped in favour of rookie Giedo van der Garde. Despite having the option to leave the sport and race in other categories, he decided to re-join the team as their reserve driver and completed several outings for them in free practice...
