McLaren will protect Magnussen

The management of McLaren believes Kevin Magnussen can be protected from the 'ravages' of Formula One during his debut season in 2014. The Danish rookie was confirmed as Sergio Perez's replacement as Jenson Button's team-mate at the Woking team after winning the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 title. At just 21 years of age, Magnussen is likely to be exposed to far more pressure to perform to a high standard than he is used to, and McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale confirmed on Friday that the team will try and protect the youngster wherever they can.
