Pirelli: Tyre safety 'not in question' following Bahrain failure

Pirelli has released a statement following a high-speed tyre failure suffered by Nico Rosberg on the final day of the Bahrain tyre test. The Mercedes driver shared the news on Twitter but deleted the message shortly after. However, the post confirmed that he suffered a tyre blow-out at 320km/h during the final day of testing at the Bahrain International Circuit. It cut short his running at the test, which Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso also completed. F1′s sole tyre supplier said that the tyre tested was a prototype that had only previously been tested in their laboratory and will not be used again.
