Ex-Formula One driver Eddie Irvine sentenced to six months in jail

Former F1 racer Eddie Irvine has been sentenced to six months in prison following a brawl in an Italian nightclub. The Irishman, who raced in Formula One from 1993 to 2002, was found guilty of injuring Gabriele Moratti, the son of a former mayor of Milan, after a brawl in a Milan nightclub in 2008. Irvine and Moratti were each handed six month sentences for their part in the bar fight, although these sentences are expected to be suspended, meaning that both will likely avoid any time in jail. The 48-year-old who spent time racing for Jordan, as well as Jaguar during his career, is best remembered for his time at Ferrari, as team-mate to Michael Schumacher.
