Boullier leaves Lotus, Lopez steps up as team principal

Amid increasing difficulties at Lotus, Eric Boullier left the Enstone-based outfit on Friday with co-owner Gerard Lopez stepping up to replace the Frenchman as team principal. Boullier led Lotus, from its previous guise as Renault, for four years. The team said in a statement that Lopez’s appointment was in order to “continue strengthening its management structure, to further increase Genii’s role in the team and to close the gap between its strategic, commercial and sporting activities.” Lotus has been struggling financially since last year, leading to the departure of its star driver Kimi Raikkonen, who wasn’t paid his salary during the course of the 2013...
