Mercedes give W05 shakedown at Silverstone

Mercedes has confirmed that its 2014 car, the W05, was given its first shake down at the Silverstone circuit today. With all eyes on the McLaren MP4-29 launch and the Lotus E22 image reveal, it went unnoticed until the Brackley-based squad confirmed the test on Friday evening. The team used one of their two filming days to give the car its first run, with Nico Rosberg at the wheel. The German driver completed 40km of running at Silverstone between 2.20pm and 4.30pm. The shake down also gave Mercedes the chance to try out their new PU106A Hybrid Power Unit on track for the first time before the opening test in Jerez.
