Vettel's run blamed for poor TV figures

Bernie Ecclestone admits Sebastian Vettel's romp to a fourth successive World title cost Formula One dearly last season. Winning nine grands prix in succession, the Red Bull racer clinched his fourth Drivers' Championship with three races to spare. But while the result was great for the 26-year-old, Formula One as a whole suffered, losting 50 million television viewers. "The less-than-competitive nature of the final few rounds, culminating in the Championship being decided ahead of the races in the USA and Brazil, events which often bring substantial audiences, had a predictable impact on reach," revealed Ecclestone.
