Skill should be rewarded - Lowdon

Marussia sporting director Graeme Lowdon believes skill, and not financial muscle, should be rewarded in Formula One. While the costs for running a Formula One team is ever on the increase, the respective teams' budgets for 2014 rose significantly due to the new regulations that required new power units and aerodynamic packages to be developed. When Marussia joined F1 under the guise of Virgin Racing in 2010, the expectation was that a budget cap would be introduced in order for the smaller teams to be able to compete with the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes.
