Rosberg beats Hamilton to Bahrain pole

Mercedes AMG Petronas Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix after beating Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton during the Q3 shootout. Rosberg set a time quick enough for provisional pole, three-tenths of a second ahead of Hamilton, and Rosberg’s position was secure when Hamilton locked up and ran wide as he began his second flying lap. Daniel Ricciardo set the third fastest time but will drop 10 places on the grid due to his penalty received last weekend in Malaysia. He will therefore start from 13th place.
