Imola leads with commemoration events to mark Senna's death 29 April, 2014 A series of events have been planned this week to commemorate the death of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna who died on the Imola track 20 years ago. The Italian circuit, where the Brazilian lost control of his Williams on May 1, 1994 when leading the San Marino Grand Prix, will open its doors to the public from May 1 to 4. On April 30, there will be a memorial service to pay tribute to Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger who was also killed while taking part in qualifying at the same race, an accident that badly affected Senna at the time.
