Chilton tops opening day of testing in Spain for Marussia

Max Chilton topped the opening day of the post-Spanish Grand test for Marussia. Chilton shot to the top of the time sheets in the dying moments of the session with a lap of 1:26.434 on the super-soft Pirelli tyres, relegating Lotus’ Reserve Driver Charles Pic down to second, the Frenchman having impressed on his first outing for the Enstone-based team. Lewis Hamilton, who had been quickest in the wet morning session, ended the day third overall for Mercedes with 79 laps completed of the Circuit de Catalunya.
