Claire Williams has admitted that she always expected Mercedes to win the Austrian Grand Prix, despite her team’s cars locking out the front row during qualifying. Felipe Massa took his first pole in over five years on Saturday, pipping his team-mate Valtteri Bottas to the top spot in the dying moments of qualifying to secure Williams’ first 1-2 grid start since the 2003 German Grand Prix.
Yet, despite that result, Williams insists that she always suspected that either Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton, who qualified third and ninth respectively, would bounce back to claim the race win on Sunday.
