Magnussen to start from pit lane following shunt

Kevin Magnussen’s meeting with the tyre barriers during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday was more costly that imagined. A brief rain shower complicated the final session of qualifying, with the Dane sliding off the track and making a heavy collision with a tyre wall at Turn 1. The McLaren driver consequently didn’t set a time and would have started tenth. But the crash damaged the car with the team having to change the chassis and the gearbox, which necessitates a pit lane start as per regulations. “Starting from the pit lane will make life more difficult,” Magnussen said. “But I’m determined to have a strong race.”
