Tracks like Spa vital for F1, insists Gastaldi

Lotus deputy team principal Federico Gastaldi has added his voice to those desperate to keep F1's classic tracks from being usurped by newer, sanitised, venues. With Monza's future hanging in the balance, despite the recent appointment of former Ferrari pilot Ivan Capelli to its management team, there is a feeling that money will eventually trump tradition and this weekend's trip to Spa-Francorchamps – another circuit once under threat of disappearing - naturally prompted questions about the need to keep history on the calendar. “In my opinion, it is vital [for F1 to race at circuits like Spa],” Gastaldi claimed, “These tracks are the lifeblood of F1.
