Hamilton claims Russian GP pole as Bottas slips

Lewis Hamilton will start the inaugural Russian Grand Prix from pole position after he beat Mercedes teammate and championship rival Nico Rosberg and Williams’ Valtteri Bottas messed up his final run. The Briton’s top time was under threat after Bottas registered the quickest times in the first two sectors but made a mess of his lap in the final sequence of turns, and very nearly lost his car sideways as he exited the last corner. 'Taking too much out of tyres at the beginning of the lap made me struggle towards the end,' Bottas explained.
