Alonso cleared for Malaysia GP

Fernando Alonso was on Thursday cleared by doctors to compete in the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix and said a steering problem led to a pre-season crash which had kept him out of the season-opener. Alonso passed a mandatory medical and will race for McLaren on the weekend, just as Williams driver Valtteri Bottas. Alonso missed the March 15 start in Australia 15 with concussion sustained in a February crash during tests in Barcelona, while Bottas was unable to race in Melbourne owing to a back injury sustained in qualifying.
