Allison attributes win to confidence in tyre usage

Celebrating their victory in Malaysia, Chief Designer James Allison told press that practice gave Ferrari the confidence in their tyres that allowed their race winning two stop strategy. With such high temperatures (60 degrees) causing higher tyre wear than usual, most teams had to contend with three stops on the abrasive tarmac, and the early safety car caused other teams to change strategy. However, Ferrari had the confidence not to pit and to ‘run deep' into the race. Combined with great race pace, the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel was able to match and outpace the Mercedes drivers over the remainder of the race and Kimi Raikkonen forced his way up the grid to a fourth position...
