Brake issue ended Maldonado’s Malaysian GP

Pastor Maldonado was forced to retire on lap 50 of the Malaysian Grand Prix with a brake problem, Lotus has confirmed. The Venezuelan driver started from 12th place on the grid, and picked up a puncture on the opening lap of the race after contact with Valtteri Bottas. Maldonado recovered and was running in 14th when a brake issue forced him to retire nine laps before the end, making it his second retirement in as many races. “Unfortunately, we suffered from a brake issue, which isn’t great but it’s effectively our first race and we need to keep working through issues, ready for the next Grand Prix,” he said. “The potential is clearly there, especially in the race where the car...
