Vettel absorbs pressure to secure second place

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was pleased to be able to hold off Lewis Hamilton and hang on to second place at the Monaco Grand Prix, but urged the team to keep pushing to close the gap to the front. Vettel looked set to finish in third place at the Monaco Grand Prix, but was one of the beneficiaries of the unnecessary pit stop from Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton and was promoted to second place with the race under safety car conditions. From there, Vettel was forced to defend on the harder ‘prime' tyres against Hamilton, who was equipped with the softer ‘option' tyres.
