Smith joins Sauber as technical director

Mark Smith has been confirmed as Sauber's new technical director and will join the Swiss outfit later this month. He has previously worked in similar roles at Jordan, Renault, Red Bull Racing and Force India. Most recently he was Caterham F1's technical director before the team folded at the end of 2014. Smith will fit into Sauber's existing technical committee, which will keep its current structure. He starts work at the team on the 13 July. 'When I saw the facilities for the first time in Hinwil, I immediately realised the possibilities I would have,' he said.
