Free Practice 1 was a bounce back session for Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg who missed most of the session because of a gearbox problem but came back at the end to set the fastest time. FP1 certainly was a hit for Toro Rosso, with Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz ending up third and fifth. The ambient temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 64 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Centigrade) and the track temperature was 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Centigrade.)
