Aston Martin's tie-up would initiate Mercedes engine contract for four-time F1 champions The British sports car manufacturer Aston Martin is negotiating a shock return to F1 in a tie-up with Red Bull for 2016 F1 season that would bring the team Mercedes engines. Mercedes owns 5% of Aston Martin, which competed in F1 for just two seasons, in 1959 and 1960 (pictured below), with very limited success. Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has indicated Mercedes is ready to be flexible amid rumours Renault is looking to take over Lotus.
