Raikkonen to start 16th after grid penalty

Kimi Raikkonen has been handed a five-place grid penalty for the Belgian Grand Prix after a gearbox change ahead of the race. Raikkonen stopped out on track during the second part of qualifying, leaving him just 14th on the grid for Sunday’s race at Spa. The Ferrari team opted to change the Finn’s gearbox ahead of schedule, earning a grid drop. But given the penalties for Max Verstappen and the two McLaren drivers, Raikkonen will drop just two positions to 16th on the grid. Raikkonen’s penalty takes the total number of grid-place penalties to 125 for the weekend. Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button earned a cumulative 105 place drop after a double Honda engine change.
