Renault to purchase Lotus and return to the grid in 2016

Looks like Renault will be returning to the Formula 1 grid in 2016 as a full works manufacturer after today signing a letter of intent (which can be found HERE) confirming plans to acquire a controlling stake in the Lotus F1 team. It’s been a much rumoured move after the recent money problems and debt the Lotus team found itself in threatened its future in the sport. Renault last ran in Formula 1 during 2002 through till 2010, during which it claimed 2 World Drivers Championships with Fernando Alonso and 2 Constructors Championships back to back in 2005 and 2006.
