Button’s Retention – Good for Jenson, Bad for McLaren?

Today McLaren officially announced the news Ron Dennis confirmed at the weekend, that Jenson Button will be staying at the team for 2016. But was it really the best outcome for both parties? Make no mistake, Jenson Button is extremely talented, all World Champions are, but was it really in McLarens best interest to keep him? Jenson will no doubt be happy to stay; it’s unlikely he’d manage to get a race seat anywhere else with most teams retaining and happy with their current line ups. Button will be glad to stick around in F1, especially as it was (for a moment) looking like he might have to join WEC and his 15 years in the sport would come to a close.
