Ecclestone backs call for 'flat out' racing

Pirelli Media Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone has backed calls made by drivers for a return to 'flat out' racing in Formula 1, following years of competition with tyres designed to degrade at a certain rate. Pirelli, since its return as the sole supplier in 2011, has been given a mandate to spice up the racing, typically forcing drivers to stop two or three times for fresh tyres per race. However, Ecclestone has now suggested that the design should be altered to enable drivers to push throughout the race, rather than driving to a limit.
