Newey fearful of engine 'spending frenzy'

– Adrian Newey is fearful that plans to scrap Formula 1's power unit development token system could lead to a "spending frenzy" and make the sport less competitive.Formula 1's four manufacturers have agreed to drop the system for 2017, amid concerns that performance deficits would be locked in until the end of the current cycle.But Newey, Red Bull's long-time technical chief, reckons the gaps between pace-setter Mercedes and its rivals could actually increase further, given varying budgets."More spending, simple as that," Newey told news agency Reuters."If you look back on the original Technical Working Group meetings from 2012-13, the agreement at that point...
