Ayrton Senna, 22 Years ago today F1 lost the greatest driver Twenty-two years ago today, on May 1, 1994, Three-time Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna passed away in a crash in Imola, Italy, during the weekend which is considered to be the darkest in Formula 1's history. Senna’s tragic incident changed F1 forever and for the good, resulting in much better safety standards in cars and circuits. A brain damage resulted in him being declared clinically dead after he was flown to a nearby hospital. Known for his aggressive style, Senna is widely regarded as the best driver of his generation.
