FIA confirms engine token usage by Ferrari

The FIA has confirmed that Ferrari has used an engine token ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, as revealed by Motorsport.com yesterday. With Ferrari pushing hard to make the step it needs to properly challenge Mercedes, it elected to unleash a power unit update for the Red Bull Ring. In a note sent to teams on Friday morning, the FIA stated that Ferrari had spent one of its remaining development tokens. It is understood that Ferrari has changed its MGU-K design to help improve its energy recovery, which could be very valuable around the Austrian track.
