Carlos Sainz hit with three-place grid penalty for blocking Felipe Massa

Carlos Sainz will start the German Grand Prix three-places lower than he qualified after race stewards handed the Toro Rosso driver a penalty for blocking the Williams of Felipe Massa. During Q2, Massa came across a slow Sainz at Turn 2, which cost the Brazilian time. Although Sainz tried to get out of the way by taking to the grass, it was too late. Both Sainz and Massa were summoned to the stewards office to discuss the matter, with the stewards blaming Sainz. With a three-place grid drop, the Spaniard will start 16th, having qualified 13th on Saturday. Sainz will also receive two penalty points on his F1 licence, taking his 12-month total to four.
