Government approves closed-doors Belgian Grand Prix

The 2020 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix could yet make its scheduled August 30 date after receiving government approval to race behind closed doors. Previously thought to be unable to make its calendar spot due to the national ban on public events in Belgium that lasts until September 1, local broadcaster RTBF is reporting authorities have approved plans to hold the race without spectators. With that hurdle out-of-the way, race organisers can now proceed to negotiate a commercial agreement with F1 owners Liberty Media to host the event.
