Alonso taken to hospital after cycling accident

Fernando Alonso has been taken to hospital in Switzerland after he was involved in a crash whilst training near Lugano. The Alpine Formula 1 driver was reportedly struck by a car whilst cycling on Thursday as part of his pre-season training schedule. The Spaniard was taken to hospital with suspected fractures and is conscious, though he could be forced to miss the start of the 2021 F1 season pending further 'medical examinations'. The Alpine team confirmed the news in a brief statement: 'Alpine F1 Team can confirm that Fernando Alonso has been involved in a road accident while cycling in Switzerland,' it read.
