George Russell completed a total of 137 laps for Mercedes in a 2022 tyre test carried out at the Hungaroring. It was announced soon after the Hungarian Grand Prix that Russell would drive a Mercedes for the first time since he stood in for Lewis Hamilton in Bahrain last year. Specifically, he tested the 18-inch tyres that will be used in Formula 1 next season when the widespread regulation changes are finally introduced following a one-year delay.
