Teams' reactions after the opening day in Istanbul

The Intercity Istanbul Park offered much more grip than it did last year, which surprised several teams. Among these outfits was Red Bull which endured an uncharacteristically difficult day with Max Verstappen unable to find the rhythm with his RB16B. On the other hand, his championship rival Lewis Hamilton enjoyed his first day of this year’s Turkish Grand Prix, topping both Friday practice sessions. The Briton is, however, is set for a mid-pack start at best on Sunday after Mercedes opted to take a new engine for his power unit before the start of practice.
