Well does it?
Some things have forced me to take another view. Look at life from the glass is half empty side. Is forever or eternity possible?
We all say until the end of time at one point in our lives. So does that contradict the term 'forever'?
I guess I started questioning after I buried my dad last wednesday. I miss him unbelievably so much. He was my closest friend and I could talk to him about anything. I guess a little part of me died with him. But I'll always remember him with the love I have as a daughter, and as a friend. My Dad was a true mans man. He'd go out of his way to help people. I guess he's back with my brother and my uncle now.
Anyway, forever. The service took place graveside as my Dad hated churches, he was so anti-church I guess Thats where I get it from. Atheist. We still needed a priest to conduct the service, and I still stuck to my Dad's wishes to say a few words which I did. Anyway, the priest turns around and says 'bound to this earth forever until the end of time' - contradictory or what?
So I'm not sure if forever exists or if Indeed until the end of time.
What do you think?

In some ways, I wish I was less of a rational person* and could genuinely believe everything happens for a reason, and that there is a heaven and so on; it is a far easier route to take when it comes to mourning a loss. The problem is, I cannot unlearn all of the things I know about religion being an opiate and keeping society stable (at least when it comes to loss), and of course, I am now observing these different theories of religion in practice, i.e. everybody becomes a believer in heaven and so on when someone dies because it's so comforting.
Nevertheless, despite such a seemingly depressing conclusion, I still think there can be a form of "forever". This is where we can get into corny, cliché territory, as I believe "forever" is our memories of people we lose, and the fact they are still in our hearts and minds until our own thread comes to an end. I think this idea of forever is a far better way of remembering and thinking about someone you've lost, rather than basing your attachment and grieving on an intangible (although very pleasant) concept of heaven and seeing someone again - you can place it on the memories you forged over the years. I do accept that different things work for different people, though.
*No, I am not making inferences between religious belief and being irrational.
Apologies if this post comes at a bad time Steph (I wouldn't have said anything if Steph hadn't pointed out she is an atheist), and it probably isn't quite what you were aiming for with your question!
