Love....

Posted by Kopite Girl , 28 July 2010 · 71 views

So.

Love. Why is it the biggest emotion in the world? It makes us feel good when we're in it. It makes us miserable when we fall out of it. It never dies when we hold our children, when we lose a parent, when we look at our friends, siblings, grandparents. We love things too. One of the things I love is to have an evening a week and watch my Supernatural TV series on DVD. Not all 5 seasons of course! I love F1 too!

So. Why is it we cry when we are reminded of that love song that our ex used to sing or play to us? Why do we laugh when we do silly things for our loved ones?

I've been in love. I've felt the most intense feeling of wanting to make that person happy. I've felt the pain of losing that love when I walked away.

I've felt unrequited love. Both ends of the scale. I've experienced 'the one that got away' syndrome. We all have.

Why do we put ourselves through it? Why? Because we're human? Screw that. I want a proper definitive answer.

It hurts. It feels great. Its there to comfort you in your hour of need. Its there to tell you everything will be Ok. Its there to pick you up when you're down. It trips you up. It makes you want to scream. It makes you want to curl up and speak to nobody. It makes you complete and it makes you lonely. It is the way of the world.

But why?

Love....

Better to have loved and lost a midget than never to have loved a tall...

(Either I made that joke or assume that this lump I have in my throat is real...Darn love!)

You don't choose to put yourself through it, love chooses you. Just like all the other emotions, it's instinct. Because us humans is a bit cleveror than the other animal Trevers, love is one of those sophisticated ones that others (such as, I'm assuming, dogs, cats, horses, Kerry Catona, Posh Spice et al) are incapable of feeling.

I'm told that I am soon to experience a type of love I have not encountered before and that it shall be so deep, it will shake me to the core. Scary but incredibly interesting. It fills me with wonderment to see just how much it will be possible to love another human being, albeit one that will be pooing and crying non stop for a while. Odd though, I love my child already.

Love is a locked door that your everyday-Joe-public-you doesn't get the key to, only a part of us that we haven't learnt enough about has the key and opens the door, often when we least expect it.  Love is a place we should be, the strongest reason we'll ever have for anything, ever.

Love is confusing, I still want to shag a bacon butty, the Nurburgring, and my full size poster of JB's bird, Jessica Itchyfanny.

God is love, you won't experience real love until you know Him. Stronger than any inclination we have about love

I just had to make it a Christian issue I hear????

ok, I'll go to my God-Christian corner now...

Bradbaby, I respect your opinion. And I'm not about to have a go at you for being christian. Its who you are. Its what you feel. If God provides you with love, then love him back with all your being. So don't put yourself down for saying how you feel.

Steve. Your baby is lucky to have you as its Dad. My Dad used to tell me the making of a man is when he holds his child in his arms, and again when his child grows and asks his advice.

Andres, I love you too, baldy.

John, you make me smile. Thanks old chap.

...Says the man wot buggers sheep...

Anyway....I wish I had some profound answer for what love is, but I don't. It just *is*. Explain it how you wish...I doubt any explanation will be close to the truth and I bet all explanations will have some of the truth. And that contradiction is my best attempt at defining love.

Love is ultimately a complex chemical reaction... as is an orgasm, for instance. Closer to us, love is a psychological state that utilizes sensorial and conceptual data in order to produce a certain emotional inertia. Ultimately, love is an intense and terrible sickness that deranges our perception of reality in wonderful and immoderate ways. One can become a romeo... but one can become a monster too.

That said, there are many kinds of love and nobody is set to lose by experiencing as many of them as possible. I mentioned orgasms earlier on and the simile remains. It is not about having one orgasm, it's about having decades of all sorts of them, from the tender intimate ones to the tantric ones (purely sensorial without muscle reflex).

I would only add that regardless how one encounters love in others, one should never be sort on offering it. Be loving and the world becomes as close to a marshmallow as it can possibly be... just don't spill love for the sake of the marshmallow. Rather, love and realize with gusto and surprise how the marshmallow is taking over it all.

Right now for me it makes me feel miserable and extremely happy at the same time.

Miserable because my girlfriend for 5 years has left me recently. She said she needed space but found out yesterday she's fallen in love with another guy. Hey, sh#t happens, but be honest about it.

Extremely happy that I've got my son here in NZL on holiday for a month. We hadn't seen each other in 18 months apart from skype sessions and can't describe how happy I am having him around.

Today I read this in a book:

Love is like a pear. A pear is sweet and has a form. Now try defining the form of a pear.

I can only add: I like pears :P
