Karthikeyan -tracking His Progress-part 1

Posted by narain fan , 02 December 2006 · 123 views

narain karthikeyan has tested for 16 days  sofar for the williamsd F1 team, and  having met him recently,i can say that he is fitter and stronger than he ever was.and  is now giving Wurz a run for his money.Wurz who was  quite content to have narain as tester ,instead of  some nakajami san,now sees a real threat from karty as he is growing in confidence day by day.heres hoping for a 2008 williams f1 drive for narain

more later ... as i go from '06 to 05 and so on ....

So how is Narain in person? Some news reports pegged him as arrogant but I've assumed it was incorrect reporting....he's seemed pretty understated from his interviews I've read........

Narain has the raw speed, but I think he's a bit erratic. Perhaps a season of intense testing will smooth that out.. :eusa_think:  If he indeed shows that he's just as fast, or faster, than the regular drivers, Sir Frank will probably stick him in a seat in '08.

calling him arrogant is way off the mark, he came across as an intelligent  sportive and passionate individual. he even has a glance at f1  forums once in a while ;)

When I looked at him on television, he never seemed arrogant. He seemed intense. I think the only time I bashed Narain was in an old thread on Tiago vs. Narain. After being called out, I went back and studied the season a bit more and found that Narain seemed the faster of the two, but they were pretty equal in many ways, with Narain proving capable of more outright speed, if not race-pace. Testing will probably help that.

You probably won't believe this, but I was pretty excited to see him in F1......and I still rank him as quick but erratic. I see him as an oversteery driver, living on the edge of traction. A potentially faster way of driving compared to the 'classic' drivers like DC, but harder to get perfect, lap after lap. What say you about his style?

I say he needs honing. The potential has always been there but he's getting on a bit in relative terms. A bit like Sato.

I would never disrespect a blog entry and I hope others will have that same consideration ^_^  With Russ and I posting, you can count on a non-bashing approach to NK. Neither of us dislike him and our observations are pretty fair.

I thought of posting this in the forum, but that wouldn't really go anywhere (well it'll go to 30 pages without going anywhere).

A reoprt on Speed TV:

"There is a reason why we have not clarified everything," Berger told SPEEDtv.com. "Let’s say it this way, our two existing drivers are on pole position, no question. But we still have a few things to discuss, and I’d like to do it over the next few days."

Among those in the frame are Narain Karthikeyan, Tiago Monteiro and Robert Doornbos, and the Indian is believed to have access to as much as $12m. Berger admitted that the team has been in contact with all three.

Interesting. The figure sounds fishy, but wouldn't it be funny if it actually happened.

Opens up another question, what exactly is the kind of contract they have with Williams. For NK to move, he would have to move along with the Tata contract - assuming that Tata have a contract with Williams for '07. While not officially announced I guess it was implicit when his testing deal for next year was announced.

12 million is a lot of money, perhaps too much. If he is going to embarrass himself against Speed or Liuzzi, I'd ratehr he does not do it for 12 million :D

Seeing Bourdais testing alongside Liuzzi, I would guess that Scott's seat is in jeopardy and Berger is seeing how potential drivers match up to Bling-boy. I think Narain is faster than Scott, so if one of them must go, we should bid adieu to Scott.

I doubt NK would embarrass himself next to either Scott or Liuzzi.

I also don't believe the 12 million figure is correct, unless it goes along with a title-sponsorship for STR.

actually 12 million sounds logical, coz STR dont have any sponsors as of now,so though they dont have any title sponsors(nor is it likely to happen),i do believe that they  can  afford to give a lot of exposure to TATA  in the sidepods,front/rearwing etc, as Tata is not in direct conflict  with Redbull. and $12 million sounds like  a figure that is closedr to  any  other   Sponsorship deal  .
But i think SEB has  a better chance of getting the seat as he is managed by Nicholas Todt  ........
and this may be part of the "Understanding" between RBR and ferrari to transfer the engine deal from RBR to STR :eusa_think:

I like this line of reasoning, but as the engines are a done deal I would hope Berger would go for the money (the team still needs it, despite the Red Bull connection)....
